Remote on serial line RS232 / RS422 / RS485 ethernet

Using converters ethernet-serial, it is possible to remote any RS232, RS422 or RS485 serial line over the Ethernet network. To perform this function it is necessary to have two converters, one configured as a TCP server and the other configured as a TCP client. Let's see how it is possible to configure the two devices.

  1. Connect only one device to the Ethernet network at a time, if there are other devices already connected on the same network, it is necessary to know their MAC address in order to be able to identify the new device with certainty. If the MAC address is not known, it is preferable to disconnect them.
  2. Run the program on a PC setup ETM. The program is an executable and does not require any installation.
  3. The program will identify the device, and at this point it will be possible to set the IP address and the subnet mask desired. Perform the operation for both devices, using a different IP for each of them (Figure 1).
  4. Now using a normal browser, eg. Internet explorer, it will be possible to access the device simply by typing the relative IP address.
  5. The login request page (Figure 2) will be displayed on the browser. By default the device has no password set, therefore by acting on the login button the configuration page will be displayed.
  6. The two devices will be configured one as a TCP server (Figure 3) and the other as a TCP client (Figure 4).
    [ht_message mstyle = "danger" title = "Warning!" show_icon = "true" id = "" class = "" style = ""] you need to define the same device ID for both devices. [/ ht_message]
  7. Now the two devices are configured, and it will be possible to exchange information between their two serial lines using the ethernet network.
