Home > Forum > Interface converters > Ring configuration with Serial / Fiber converter
In one application I should be using a ring network using the ATC277MM serial / fiber converters. I saw from the features that support in ring configuration, I just wanted confirmation.
Yes, the ATC-277SM and ATC-277MM Serial / Fiber converters can be used in a ring configuration like the one shown in the diagram (See diagram).
In this configuration, the master system can query in a multidrop configuration all the slaves systems connected to the various Serial / Fiber converters.
I deepened the subject by confirming it with a real test in our laboratory (Here's the picture), a condition for operating in the required configuration is that the master system can manage Full/Duplex communication.
In my test I used a 4-wire RS422 configuration, but an RS232 configuration could also work very well. As you can see from the photo I connected the Tx output of the master with the Rx input of the 1st slave (Fiber A), the Tx of the 1st slave to the Rx of the 2nd slave (Fiber B), the Tx of the 2nd slave to the Rx of the master (Fiber C).
Naturally in this configuration the master receives itself, therefore it is possible by checking the data received to check the functionality of the optical ring.
