I bought a 1-wire water leak detector and today ordered two more, with two meter long “sensitive cable”. My question is if you can connect more "sensitive cables" about 50 centimeters long interspaced by normal "extension cables"?
Example: the "extension cable" part from the sensor after 2 meters I put a 50 cm long sensitive cable, after which I continue in the duct with an "extension cable" for about 3 or 4 meters then I connect another "sensitive cable" of about 50 cm and so on up to a total of about 6 "sensitive cables" (50 cm each) per sensor. Total length of the two cables together approx 20/25 meters. For the "extension cable" the terminations should be done on site based on the real distances.
I imagine that in the event of an alarm the position of the loss is not identified / specified, but I would be fine with it.
If the above is possible: could I cut the 2 meter "sensitive cable" that I already have, in 4 of 50 cm, putting the terminations myself? Will you be able to quantify the cost per 50 cm pieces of "sensitive cable"?November 2, 2017 at 7: 18 am #40005Sergio BertanaAdministrator ForumThe typical use is precisely that of interspersing sensitive cables with extension cables in order to check for leaks in the desired points. The sensitive cable can reach a total length of 85 meters to which you can add up to 100 meters of extension cable for a total length of 185 meters.
Cutting the sensitive cable even if it is theoretically possible requires some care in the wiring. The supplier supplies the sensitive cable as an option in two lengths 10 and 50 meters, also supplies the extension cables in the standard measure of 2 meters. The only way to meet your square footage needs unfortunately is just to venture into DIY. As you say correctly in the event of an alarm it is not possible to identify the alarm zone.
