I’m a student at “Politehnica University” from Bucharest and I am interested in learning PLC. Currently I am developing a project with my professor, which involves using the PLC SlimLine ARM 7 CPU, we managed to do a simulation using LogicLab software and it works great.

Now we are trying to take the project to another level, meaning setting up an HMI interface, and  we were advised to use PowerHMI software. We are encountering some difficulties, we can not establish the connection from  PowerHMI software with the PLC, and I am respectful asking for some help in solving this problem.

The simplest and cheaper HMI interface, could be made by using the Touch screen HMIs, we resell the Weintek products that can be easily interfaced to all the market PLCs (They support all the most used communication protocols). We remind to you that the EasyBuilder program (Can be downloaded free) supports also the real simulation (Works for 15 mins). In the forum dedicated to them you will find a lot of program examples.

Another cheaper solution is to use the ProfilabExpert program, it can dialogue with our SlimLine modules by using the modbus RTU or TCP/IP protocol. In this post you will find an example program.

Anyway the PowerHMI and its big brother Movicon are a most impressive solutions in the HMI and SCADA programs range. Today Progea (The Movicon developper) releases a unique develop environment, Movicon, with it it’s possible to develop projects both for PowerHMI and the Movicon SCADA. It’s possible to freely download it, directly by the Progea site download area.

To help you in starting a PowerHMI project that dialogues with the SlimLine CPU module, I have realized the PTP098C000 tutorial project. In this tutorial we have a SlimLine and a PowerHMI programs (Download the tutorial).

The SlimLine program, does the followings actions
Moves the two logic inputs of the CPU module to a DB100 BOOL variables, accessible by Modbus TCP/IP.
Moves a BOOL variable from the DB100 to one CPU module ouput.
Executes the blinking of the second CPU module output with presettable On/Off times.

The powerHMI program displays a panel (See the screenshot) on wich the status of the two digital inputs are reported as a lamp. A push button sets the CPU Module output, and two potentiometers are provided to set the On/Off times.
